Why I Started Using AI in My Design Workflow

AI hasn't replaced my design process—it has improved it.

Instead of spending hours on repetitive tasks, brainstorming from scratch, or writing documentation, I use AI to remove friction so I can focus on what matters most:

  • Solving user problems

  • Designing better experiences

  • Collaborating with stakeholders

  • Shipping products faster

After experimenting with dozens of AI tools, I consistently return to just two that cover almost everything I need.

My daily stack:

🎨 Figma (Design, Make & Motion)

1. Figma — Where Every Design Starts

Figma is still my primary design tool.

But today, it's much more than a UI design application.

It has evolved into an AI-powered design platform that helps designers move from idea to prototype much faster.

Figma Design

This is where I create:

  • User interfaces

  • Design systems

  • Wireframes

  • High-fidelity mockups

  • Responsive layouts

Instead of manually recreating components repeatedly, AI suggestions and smart tools help speed up repetitive work.

I use it for

  • Mobile apps

  • Web applications

  • Dashboards

  • Landing pages

  • Design systems

2. Figma Make

One of my favorite additions.

Instead of only designing static screens, I can quickly transform ideas into interactive experiences.

Think of it as turning:

Idea → Interface

much faster than before.

It helps me:

  • Explore concepts

  • Build UI variations

  • Prototype ideas quickly

  • Reduce repetitive design work

This doesn't replace designers—it accelerates experimentation.

3. Figma Motion

Great products feel alive.

Motion helps communicate interactions that static images simply can't.

Instead of explaining animations with paragraphs, I can show them.

Examples include:

  • Page transitions

  • Micro interactions

  • Button feedback

  • Loading animations

  • Screen transitions

Motion helps developers understand exactly how an interface should behave.

4. Claude — My AI Design Partner

Claude isn't my designer.

It's my thinking partner.

I use it throughout the entire product design process—not just for writing.

Brainstorming

When I'm stuck, Claude helps me explore ideas from different angles.

For example:

  • UX improvements

  • Navigation ideas

  • User flows

  • Accessibility

  • Feature prioritization

Instead of staring at a blank page, I start with conversation.

UX Writing

Clear interfaces need clear language.

Claude helps me write:

  • Empty states

  • Error messages

  • Success messages

  • Tooltips

  • Onboarding copy

  • Microcopy

Simple language creates better experiences.

Product Thinking

One feature usually creates five new questions.

Claude helps me think through:

  • Edge cases

  • User scenarios

  • Business requirements

  • Acceptance criteria

  • Product strategy

It often points out situations I hadn't considered.

Documentation

One of the biggest time savers.

Claude helps me create:

  • Product Requirements Documents (PRDs)

  • UX documentation

  • User stories

  • Design specifications

  • Design audits

  • QA checklists

Instead of starting from scratch, I start with structure.

Development Collaboration

As someone with front-end knowledge, I also use Claude to help:

  • Explain CSS

  • Improve React components

  • Review code

  • Debug layouts

  • Optimize responsive designs

  • Generate implementation ideas

This creates smoother collaboration between designers and developers.

Why I Don't Use AI to Replace Creativity

AI is incredibly fast.

But speed isn't the goal.

Good products come from understanding people.

That still requires:

  • Empathy

  • Research

  • User interviews

  • Product strategy

  • Business understanding

  • Design judgment

AI generates possibilities.

Designers make decisions.

That's an important difference.

Final Thoughts

The best AI workflow isn't about using the most tools—it's about using the right ones consistently.

For me, Figma and Claude complement each other perfectly.

Figma helps me visualize ideas.

Claude helps me think more clearly.

Together, they allow me to spend less time on repetitive work and more time creating experiences that users actually enjoy.

AI doesn't replace the designer.

It removes obstacles so the designer can do their best work.
