Innovation is at its best when collaboration meets purpose. Dragon Algebra World was our undergraduate thesis project, developed to help Grade 7 students learn Algebra through an engaging and interactive digital experience. Recognized as the Regional Champion in Region I, the project showcased how technology and gamification can transform traditional mathematics education into a fun and effective learning journey.

Our team designed Dragon Algebra World to address one of the biggest challenges in mathematics education—keeping students engaged while learning Algebra. Instead of relying solely on textbooks and lectures, the application encourages students to learn through interactive lessons, educational games, multimedia content, and achievement-based challenges that make learning both enjoyable and meaningful.

Built around the Philippine K–12 Mathematics Curriculum, the application covers essential Grade 7 Algebra topics, including variables, constants, exponents, algebraic expressions, and polynomials. Students progress through interactive lessons, unlock game islands, complete challenges, and earn rewards that motivate continuous learning while improving their critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

My Role in the Project

As part of the development team, I served as the Graphic Artist, Animator, and Frontend Developer. I was responsible for designing the application's visual identity and creating an engaging user experience through custom illustrations, interface design, animations, and frontend implementation. My goal was to transform complex mathematical concepts into an interactive environment that students would find both intuitive and enjoyable.

Results and Recognition

Dragon Algebra World was evaluated using the Software Usability Measurement Inventory (SUMI) and received an overall usability score of 4.53 out of 5, indicating that users found the system efficient, engaging, helpful, easy to control, and highly learnable.

Our work was recognized as the Regional Champion in Region I, demonstrating the project's innovation and potential to enhance mathematics education through interactive learning and gamification.

Reflection

Dragon Algebra World remains one of the most meaningful projects in my career. Beyond the recognition it received, the project strengthened my skills in UI/UX design, graphic design, animation, frontend development, and user-centered product design. It reinforced my belief that thoughtful design is not only about creating beautiful interfaces—it is about building experiences that inspire, educate, and make a real impact on people's lives.
